Pension
Faroese early retirement pension
An early retirement pension can be granted to persons who are aged between 18 and 67. A condition for being granted an early-retirement pension is that the applicant’s work capacity is permanently reduced by at least half the overall capability.
A condition for granting an early retirement function is that it has not been possible to improve the working capacity through work-improving measures (rehabilitation etc.) or it is found under the circumstances that there is no suitable work for the person concerned.
There are three different benefit levels in an early retirement pension. Classification according to these levels depends on the loss of the ability to work, age, work opportunities and other special circumstances.
The early retirement pension is income related on the basis of the pensioner’s own income.
Any spouse’s income has therefore no impact on the early retirement pension.
There may be special supplements in addition to the early retirement pension including assistance and home care supplements, needs-tested supplement and medicine supplement.
